Good Morning, RVA: Crime, mayors, and bike shares
The weather for this Easter weekend looks pretty alright!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 65 °F, and there’s a bit of a chance of rain today, mostly around lunchtime. After that though, it’s smooth weather sailing through the weekend–perfect for whatever Eastering you may have planned.
Oh, just a reminder: Today is Good Friday, so some government office and services may have the day off.

Richmond police are reporting a murder that happened yesterday evening in Mosby Court. From the police: “Officers were called to the 1900 block of Raven Street for a report of a shooting. They quickly located a man who had been shot lying on the ground outside one of the residences. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:17 PM.” This is Richmond’s 14th murder in 2016.
Yesterday, Venture Richmond announced that Executive Director Jack Berry will resign. While only hinted at in the press release, it’s pretty clear that he’s about to make his plans to run for mayor official. Also on the mayoral tip, the RTD reports that both former councilman Bruce Tyler and Joe Morrissey will also officially join the race. It’s gonna be a dang crowded field come November.
I talked to the city’s Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Trails coordinator about Richmond’s coming bike-share system, which I’m really excited about (1,400 words excited, apparently). We’ve got a couple months before these things start popping up around town, so you’re going to have to wait patiently. Between now and then, I’m sure they’ll be a few public meetings, branding announcements, and the like to tide you over.
There’s a public forum this Saturday at 2:00 PM in Monroe Park to discuss alternate locations for the homeless that spend time in the park. In May, Monroe Park will close for renovations, and with it the city loses one of its larger public green spaces for awhile.
The New York Times has an investigation into the NFL’s super-flawed concussion research (surprise, surprise). The NFL responded, so the NYT did this awesome point-by-point public takedown of that response. So good.

Doing a TED Talk: The Full Story
A story about procrastination and preparation.
I went through what I had, and it went okay until the last five minutes of the talk. I really didn’t like that part of the script, and during the rehearsal, I made the impromptu decision to go rogue and improvise, since I hated what was coming out of my mouth. This was a bad idea. What I ended up doing was a rambling and nonsensical ending that wasn’t that different from me picking words out of the dictionary at random and saying them.
