Good Morning, RVA: Consistently cool

Today expect rain, clouds, and a monotone temperature.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 59 °F, and it’s going to rain. That’s basically the forecast for the entire day. With any luck the rain will be brief, but temperatures will stay right around 60 °F until tomorrow when they shoot back to the upper-70s.

Mark Cavendish was in town over the past couple of days scoping out the course for the Big Bike Race™. You may have not seen him zip by because he’s literally the fastest cyclist in the world. He thinks we’re a “proper lovely place with friendly people.” I think the same thing too, Mark!

The Southeastern Institute of Research is conducting a survey on behalf of the City about what we should do with the Main Street Train Station. There are free-form text boxes so that means the sky’s the limit for your responses! How about a massive coin-operated arcade? Or a dinosaur petting zoo? Or 25 tiny restaurants that combine together to form one giant restaurant? All of these could be a reality!

Here’s a fascinating thing in Style Weekly: “Local artists acknowledge gender progress by re-creating a lesbian salon of the 1920s.” I am simultaneously super intrigued and filled with intense anxiety by immersive theatre.

New York tap water has nothing to do with how their delicious bagels taste. Science says so! Or does it? Either way, we need to stop using the water as an excuse for our incredible lack of delicious bagel places in town, OK?

Sports!

• Kickers blanked the Virginia Beach City FC, 2-0, and advance to the next round of the US Open Cup on May 27th. Meanwhile, they’ve got another home game this Saturday.
• Squirrels open a home stretch with a series against Bowie tonight at 7:05 PM.
• Nats beat the Yanks, 3-2, and ride a five-game win streak.
