Good Morning, RVA: Colder weather looms later this week

Don’t leave your plants or children out overnight!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 44 °F out there, and we’ve only got two more days of reasonable weather before the cold hits on Thursday. Unfortunately, today looks cloudy with a chance of rain, so that leaves tomorrow as your One True Nice Day Remaining. Use it wisely.

Water cooler

Today is Veteran’s day, which originally celebrated the end of World War I, but now celebrates all veterans. Unrelated: it’s also Corduroy Day (11/11, get it?).

The RTD’s bizman Jacob Geiger reports that another island in the James River is now for sale. You might know Vauxhall Island as home to the terrible billboard that obscures one of the better views of Richmond as you come up through the city from the south. It joins Mayo Island on the list of inexplicably private-owned pieces of our riverfront that could be your for just several million bucks.

Also from the RTD this morning, Graham Moomaw’s City Council report. Not a whole lot cooking this month, with most of the juicy bits pushed to future meetings.

President Obama, now unfettered by the chains of elections, has a plan to save Net Neutrality. That plan is…to get people to talk about it on Twitter? Ultimately, the FCC, run by former Kabletown lobbyist and Ohio State Buckeye Tom Wheeler, is an independent organization and can do whatever it wants. Fingers crossed, I guess?

How love and integrity made Welcome to Night Vale a massive success

Cheesy, but good–just like pizza.

“How did your podcast, Welcome to Night Vale, become the number one podcast in the US for four straight months, topping the massive This American Life? What’s the secret to your success?”

“That’s easy,” I might say, leaning in to a near whisper. “Here’s the secret.”

This is the secret to all success. You’ve heard a version of it before. It’s a three-step process.

Make art. Make art with people you love. Respect the art you make.
