Come on, Wednesday!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 37 °F, and today’s highs are about ten degrees lower than yesterday’s. Plus, there’s a small chance of rain this afternoon with a large chance of lots of clouds. Time to dig those layers back out.
If you use our interstate system to get to and from work, beware the I-95 / I-64 interchange over the next couple of days! From VDOT: “Weather permitting, the right lane of the ramp from Interstate 95 north to Interstate 64 west will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, January 21 – 22 from 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM due to an overhead sign replacement project.” Expect major delays, says VDOT.
The first of four public meetings to discuss Richmond Public School’s plan to shift around school start times is tonight at the brand new Huguenot High School. Up for consideration: later starts for high schools (the dang teens and their awkwardly growing bodies could use it) and earlier releases for younger students (which could make child care complicated for some parents). This is the first piece of Superintendent Bedden’s Academic Improvement Plan that folks are gonna have lots of opinions on, so keep an eye on how it plays out.
Dr. Bedden also presented his proposed 2015-2016 budget to the School Board last night. Zachary Reid has the details, which you should read. It’s nice to see the School Board and the Superintendent vibing so well.
From WTVR, here’s what 50,000 pounds of corn meal looks like when you spill it on a road.
That state of the Union is, predictably, strong. If you missed President Obama’s hour-long speech last night, you can read the full remarks over on the White House’s Medium. The White House has a Medium?! Très hip!
Vox has done the heavy lifting to pair what the president said with his proposed policies, so you can get an idea how all that speechifying will affect your day-to-day.

This morning’s longread
Yes, many women are angry, and injured, and our public seething will make you uncomfortable. Sit with that. Let it wash over you, and through you. Breathe, and feel the urge to squirm, and choose to be still instead. For we who have been living with this discomfort our whole careers, you can handle not-reacting for a few minutes.
