Good morning, RVA: Cold, wet, is it spring yet?

The region is covered in a Winter Weather Advisory, kids are going to school late, and it’s cold. All this just two days before the vernal equinox.

Good morning, RVA! It’s cold (below freezing: 28 °F), we’re under a Winter Weather Advisory, and the kids are going to school late. All this just two days out from the vernal equinox. I’m not sure about you, but I want my money back.

Highs today sarcastically soar into the mid-30s, while ice pellets and rain continue for the entire day.

  • Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover, and Richmond City public schools are all operating on a two hour delay. Make sure you check the respective websites for various codes and statuses.
  • VSU will open at 10:00 AM.
  • At this time, the Manchester and Nickel Bridge are closed due to ice. They may reopen for the morning commute–keep your ear to the ground.
  • With temperatures below freezing, drive carefully and watch for black ice and other hazards. Expect traffic, accidents, and slow goings this morning.

Water cooler

The Byrd Theatre’s seats–which, in my opinion, are now part of the lore of the place–may be replaced by the current seats in the Grand Théâtre Lumière, host of the Cannes film festival. One theatre’s trash is another theatre’s treasure.

A woman was shot with a dart near N. Davis Avenue and W. Main Street yesterday. A darts game gone horrible wrong? A dark-hearted blow dartist? We may never know, but remain vigilant Fan residents.
