Good Morning, RVA: Cold, grumpy mornings continue across the city

Hmph.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 35 °F, and that makes me mad. Today’s highs in the mid-50s also upset me, and I reserve the right to maintain a general state of annoyance until Saturday when highs return to the gentlemanly 70s. Tomorrow: more of the same.

Water cooler

Tonight, The Broadberry, Richmond’s newest and most mid-sized venue, celebrates their grand opening with some of RVA’s most celebrated bands. No BS!, Black Girls, and Goldrush will kick things off in the new space for just $10, doors at 8:00 PM.

Join the 16 finalists of the 2014 i.e.* Start-Up Competition tonight at CenterStage as they present their butts off to a panel of judges and a live studio audience (that’s you!). The winner will take home $10,000 and a trophy made from the desiccated husks of previously failed startups!

Poor water quality–caused by either algae, scuzzy pollen, or…something more mysteriouskilled 200 blue gill in Fountain Lake at Byrd Park. As one visitor to the lake said, “Great doggy!”

Anoushka Shankar has canceled her April 26th performance with the Richmond Symphony at the Carpenter center.

Everything you don’t know about tipping

Here’s and exhaustive look at why to tip, when to tip, and how much to tip in all of life’s awkward and ambiguous tipping situations.

Tipping is not about generosity. Tipping isn’t about gratitude for good service. And tipping certainly isn’t about doing what’s right and fair for your fellow man.

Tipping is about making sure you don’t mess up what you’re supposed to do.
