Good Morning, RVA: Bring your umbrella (maybe)!

Today continues with the wet-weather.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 71 °F, and from today you should expect another day like yesterday. Clouds will fill the sky, scattered thunderstorms will fill the afternoon, and an umbrella should probably fill your bag.

Water cooler

Katy Burnell Evans has a wrap up of last night’s City Council meeting, which included a last-minute resolution from the mayor in support of a free-standing children’s hospital on the Boulevard. Some folks on Council were none too happy about the rushed process, so that particular conversation has been delayed until September. Councilmen Baliles and Samuels (who voted against the mayor’s resolution) also released a statement on Friday explaining how they would like see the process move forward. I didn’t realize an application to the state had to be submitted by December 2nd if the hospital is going to move forward, seems like not a whole lot of time for a project that was dead in the water a couple weeks ago.

Don’t forget about tonight’s public meeting to discuss the GRTC Pulse / Bus Rapid Transit! Come out and learn about the first major, modern investment in Richmond’s public transit system in years and years!

Whoa: Richmond-based Tenant Turner got picked up by Y Combinator. This is definitely great for Tenant Turner, but also pretty cool for Richmond’s nascent startup scene as TT won last year’s i.e.* Start-Up Competition. Great job everyone involved, and let’s get to work sending more Richmonders out into the (terrifying) world of technology startups!

The Boys Scouts of America voted to remove their ban on openly-gay leaders–with some exceptions.

Sports!

Bruce Arians, Hokie and head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, hired the NFL’s first female coach. Jen Welter will coach inside linebackers during the Cardinal’s training camp and preseason.

  • Squirrels fell to Altoona, 2-3. They’ll try again tonight at 7:00 PM.
  • With the series against the Pirates behind them, the Nats travel to Florida to take on the Marlins tonight at 7:10 PM.

35 Bill Cosby Accusers Tell Their Stories

Accompanying this photo essay is a compilation of the interviews with these women, a record of trauma and survival — the memories that remain of the decades-old incidents. All 35 were interviewed separately, and yet their stories have remarkable similarities, in everything from their descriptions of the incidents to the way they felt in the aftermath. Each story is awful in its own right. But the horror is multiplied by the sheer volume of seeing them together, reading them together, considering their shared experience.
