Good Morning, RVA: Always wear sunscreen

High school graduations begin this week, watch out!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 70 °F now on this fine Thursday morning, and compared to yesterday, today’s a bit cooler. This afternoon expect temperatures in the mid 80s, a chance of thunderstorms, and–you know the drill–pervasive humidity. A cold front should move through and help out with the latter, though.

Chesterfield County begins graduation ceremonies today at the Siegel Center. If you value your time and sanity you should probably avoid the area (until June 14th when everyone’s good and graduated).

The Redskins have decided to allow food trucks at this year’s training camp…as long as they pay a $2,500 fee for the privilege (that’s $167 per day). To give some context: a single booth at the holiday Bizarre Bazaar costs $750 or $140 per day.

Former Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Sharon Judkins is back in the news and has filed a race and gender discrimination lawsuit against the city.

Sports! Squirrels over Trenton, 6-4; Nats over the Phillies, 4-8; and Kings down Rangers in overtime, 3-2. Today the Nats continue their series with Philly at 4:05 PM, the Squirrels finish their series with Trenton at 6:35 PM, and the NBA playoffs begin as the Heat take on the Spurs at 9:00 PM.

The day I left my son in the car

Don’t worry, no one dies in this story.

I visualized how quickly, unencumbered by a tantrumming 4-year-old, I would be, running into the store, grabbing a pair of child headphones. And then I did something I’d never done before. I left him. I told him I’d be right back. I cracked the windows and child-locked the doors and double-clicked my keys so that the car alarm was set. And then I left him in the car for about five minutes.
