Good Morning, RVA: …again?

Yep, a nontrivial amount of snow may fall tonight—plan accordingly.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 24 °F, and while today’s high will reach into the upper-40s…snow is on the way. I’ve seen one local news channel say “it looks like another snow day or delay for teachers and students tomorrow.” I’ve heard the rumbling of the masses headed to Kroger for wheat and dairy. I’ve felt a great disturbance, as if thousands of parents suddenly cried out in terror at the thought of another cancelled school day.

We’re looking at 2”-4” of heavy, wet snow to fall late tonight and into tomorrow morning.

As RPS superintendent Dr. Bedden interviews in Boston today, Richmond’s left trying to figure out how to best show their support for the guy. I can’t help but laugh at this resolution passed by the school board, as an enticement for Bedden to stay, that basically promises they’ll stay out of the man’s hair. But, you guys, it’s pretty neat seeing lots of folks in the community and government working together and excited about the direction things are headed.

NBC 12 has a good interview with Richmond’s new chief of police Alfred Durham that you should read.

Tonight, at 12:01 AM, it is legal to possess, grow, and smoke weed in (some parts) of Washington D.C. The Washington Post has a fairly snarky FAQ of what you can and can’t do and remain unarrested. D.C. is a much closer to Richmond than Alaska.

President Obama vetoed the Keystone XL pipeline, just his third veto ever. Vox has some interesting chartsandgraphs on presidential vetoes and what they mean.

• #22 Rams vs. Spiders in the what’s growing to be a very intense and emotional cross-town rivalry. The game starts at 7:00 PM and you can watch over on ESPN 2.
• #2 Wahoos head down to even-snowier North Carolina to face the Demon Deacons tonight at 7:00 PM.
• Caps host the Penguins tonight at 8:00 PM.
• Hokies welcome #4 Duke to Cassell Coliseum for a 9:00 PM tipoff.

Now, in just the last few years, a new body of research is emerging that says Neanderthals were far more similar to us than we realized. They interbred with humans. They produced art and tools. They may have been smarter than previously thought. And the reasons they died out may actually have been more about bad luck than innate inferiority.
