Good Morning, RVA: Active edition

Don’t let the rain get you down, it’s a waste of time. Today kicks off an active weekend.

Grab your galoshes and unpack the umbrella, its going to be a wet morning across the Richmond area. The downpour should turn to drizzle by the time you’ve had your second cup of coffee and you may even fell the sun on your shoulders for your ride home. Today will see a high of 70F around 4:00pm and a cool low of 50F in the wee hours of the morning.

WATER COOLER

It’s national bike to work day. If you’ve got the gear, and don’t mind the rain, then jump on your velocipede and watch for puddles.

Speaking of biking, the surefooted and peddle-powered will be glad to know the city and private landowners have struck a deal to reopen the Buttermilk Trail.

This weekend is the DominionRiver Rock festival. Dogs jumping, people racing through mud, stand-up paddle boarding…paddle boarding people!…what’s not to love? Get yourself downtown this weekend for wonderful reminder that we live in a river city. You may want to plan a few minutes extra when trying to reach events. Sportsbackers and the city are increasing security this year.

THIS MORNING’S LONGREAD

Are you a ninja, or do you shoal or salmon? Cyclists and motorists — can’t we all just get along?

Don’t Salmon, Don’t Shoal: Learning The Lingo Of Safe Cycling

Meanwhile, I bet Alec Baldwin has done his share of Idaho stops. In fact, I bet just about every cyclist has, except maybe the cyclist who once yelled at me for doing an Idaho stop at a light: “You’re making cyclists look like they don’t obey traffic laws!”
