Winter is coming, but first, the zombies

Some people save mankind from undead hordes with sawed-off shotguns, some save mankind by capturing the fray in gory detail! Heaton Johnson went deep into the shambling this weekend and photographed the RVA Zombie Walk, which chewed up Carytown and demanded more.

Whoadang, that’s sooommmme library

That whole Libbie Mill thing over there on Staples Mill is really becoming its own planet. But for some reason, it’s the new library that is making us stop what we’re doing (shopping online for jackets) and go, “Awhaaaaa???”

JK that is not its name. It is 804ork Vol. 2: Back for Seconds, and Stephanie Ganz talked to publisher and designer Carrie Fleck Walters about the process and what we can expect from this here beautiful cookbook. Her article features a recipe by Urban Tavern’s Tim Bereika! WILL 804ORK 2 TOP THE FIRST ONE, WHICH WAS EDITED BY RVANEWS’S OWN SUSAN HOWSON? Probably! 804ork Vol. 2 is edited by actual cookbook editor Marcella Lee, who, Susan will be the first to admit, is 100% likely to do a tighter job. Making a cookbook, we hear (and heard, ad nauseam during the entirety of 2013) is no small feat.

A hostel environment

Richmond’s new hostel makes our own homes look really pathetic. So, we think we might all just start sharing a room there for $30 a night. Guys, think about it! So fun! Check out Trevor Dickerson’s interview and beautiful photos of a space so cool we kind of want to smack it and then burst into confusing tears.
