Former ROC pastor, indicted for sexual abuse, to preach in Church Hill

Pastor G will speak at Cedar Street Baptist on Good Friday.

Geronimo Aguilar, commonly known as “Pastor G” and currently facing multiple indictments for child sex offenses, is one of seven individuals scheduled to speak at the “Rush Hour to Calvary” event at Cedar Street Baptist Church of God on April 18.

From 8News:

In May 2013, Aguilar, 43, was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl and her 13-year-old sister while he was their youth pastor in Fort Worth, Texas in 1996 and 1997. In September 2013, a grand jury indicted him on two counts of aggravated sexual assault in the case involving the younger sister.

As multiple sources have pointed out, Aguilar maintains he is innocent.

Even so, one member of the seven scheduled speakers has chosen not to participate because of Aguilar’s involvement.

From CBS6:

…at least one pastor, Tyrone Nelson, has pulled out after he learned Pastor G would be preaching at the church. “I was invited by my friend Anthony Chandler to preach for this service,” Nelson said. “At that point, I was not aware of all the details surrounding the services.  Now that I know, I am making a decision not to participate.”

Tyrone Nelson is the reverend at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church. He is also a member of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors, representing Varina.

According to 8News, there are other scheduled speakers who don’t feel comfortable sharing a stage with Aguilar, including Pastor Emory Berry of Fourth Baptist Church in Richmond.

Richmond news outlets aren’t the only ones taking notice. Coverage of this story has also appeared just an hour ago on christianpost.com.
