Extension Programs Focus On Lawns, Gardening

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Virginia Cooperative Extension continues to accept participants in its Grass Roots and Gardening for Chesterfield Residents programs. Applications for the Grass Roots Program are being accepted through June 1. The program offers homeowners personalized lawn-management plans. The program fee is $20, which includes the testing of one soil sample ($11 each for additional samples). An Extension master gardener measures the lawn and makes observations. That information, plus the soil-test results, is used by an Extension technician to devise a management plan specifically for that lawn. Extension’s Gardening for Chesterfield Residents Program includes a site evaluation from an Extension master gardener, who conducts a basic landscape inventory, a follow-up consultation, and a landscape reference binder personalized to the yard. The fee is $25, and the program will run through July. Homeowners interested in one or both of these programs are encouraged to go online to chesterfield.gov (click on County Departments, Cooperative Extension, then Grass Roots or Gardening for Chesterfield Residents Program) to learn more about these programs and download or print registration materials. Registration materials should be mailed to Virginia Cooperative Extension, Chesterfield County Office, P.O. Box 146, Chesterfield, VA 23832-0040. Registration materials should include payment by a check made payable to Treasurer, Chesterfield County. More information also is available by calling (804) 751-4401.
