Eric Cantor defeated in Republican primary
The House Majority Leader loses to Tea Party candidate David Brat.

With 100% of precincts reporting, the vote totals follow:
- David Brat: 36,110
- Eric Cantor: 28,898
Only 65,008 votes were cast, just 8.5% of the 7th Congressional District's population (in 2010). Election results by locality can be found here.

In an unexpected turn of events, incumbent Eric Cantor lost the 7th District primary to Tea Part candidate David A. Brat. Cantor had held the district since 2001.
Brat will face Democrat John “Jack” Trammel in the November election. Both candidates are current faculty of Randolph-Macon College.
