No injuries and one apartment was heavily damaged.
This morning anyone trying to traverse the south end of Boulevard found their way blocked with signs, police, and fire engines. The reason was due to a fire on the 200 block of South Boulevard.
Crews arrived at 5:34 a.m. and the fire was marked under control in a second-story apartment by 5:56 a.m., according to a spokesman. There were no injuries.
The fire heavily damaged the apartment where it started, but did not spread to the other 11 units in the three-story building, the spokesman said.
Fire equipment remaining at the scene could affect rush-hour traffic in the area, the official said.
The building was safely evacuated and working fire alarms could be heard as firefighters entered.
