Drainage issues to be focus of Forest View Neighborhood Meeting
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 25th at 6 PM at Richmond’s Westover Baptist Church.
DPU wants to make sure they have identified the problem water-drainage areas in the neighborhood.
DPU plans to have map exhibits available for people to mark up showing location of drainage issues.
If you have rain water run-off drainage issues – this is the meeting you need to attend – Wednesday, May 25th!

Below is a status update / summary of schedule for the Forest View Neighborhood drainage study:
- Our engineering consultant, Hazen & Sawyer, has received authorization (in late March) to begin the drainage study work. Total cost of the study comes in at just below $200K.
- Almost half of the study cost is in survey work. I think I quoted 60% to you which is a bit off. This is a large area and the survey costs are extensive.
- An aerial survey has already been completed for the study area.
- Hazen’s surveyor (sub-consultant) will be performing a limited field survey for the study area. This field survey will constitute 560 survey hours and involve 230 structures. The field survey is expected to be completed in early June.
- Once field survey is complete it will be combined with the aerial survey and a base map will be developed. This is expected to be completed by late July.
- While the survey work and base map development are taking place, Hazen & Sawyer will be conducting a site walk / investigation to observe existing conditions and take notes on what they see out in the field. This information will be valuable for the study.
- As we discussed over the phone, we can do a public meeting in May. We’ll bring a map of the study area and ask people in attendance to let us know about problem areas and to locate those areas on the map. We’ll use this meeting to get as much information from the neighborhood as possible.
- The study / drainage evaluation can’t begin until the survey is complete; but while the survey is being developed we will be performing the site investigation and holding the public meeting to gather information.

If you think $200K is high just for a survey, imagine the botched job of relocating over 3,000 feet of Reedy Creek and it’s tributary and clearing and grading it’s mature hardwood riparian area with no planned stream assessment before or after construction for a measly $1.2M. Reedy Creek has a drainage area of almost 5 square miles where they plan this monstrosity in the Forest Hill neighborhood.
