Pear Street Condos withdrawn from council

Last night during the regularly scheduled monthly council meeting the Pear Street Condo proposal was withdrawn from considerations.

The Pear Street condos are planned to be built at the end of Tobacco Row but the height of the building as meet with resistance from various parties. At the center of the debate is the need for a special use permit for the building to reach it’s proposed 15 stories and was scheduled for a vote by city council. One floor has been scrapped but that had done little to appease those that stand against the project. Joining the side of nay-sayers is Council Woman Cynthia I. Newbille of the 7th District.
Newbille, 7th District, said she will ask the developer, David White, to change the project to address her constituents’ concerns that the building’s height would mar views from Libby Hill Park. She also said she will ask the council to not call a vote on the project at Monday’s meeting.
“I am willing to, on Monday, say to my colleagues that this is not anything we can vote on because my community has concerns about this,” Newbille told the crowd gathered for a town hall meeting at the East District Family Resource Center.
