Council opens the door to archaeological exploration in Shockoe

Funding and start date have not been determined.

From RTD:

The City Council voted unanimously Monday to support archaeological research at the former Seabrook Warehouse site, which lies in the footprint of the ballpark-anchored development proposed by Mayor Dwight C. Jones in 2013.

The council’s resolution is nonbinding, and the work will depend on officials finding about $50,000 to pay for it.

The site in question is located at 212 N. 18th Street is currently a parking lot and was believed to be the best example of where development plans and known historical sites clash.
