Commonwealth Veterans Day Ceremony

Where you can go today to help honor those who have served…

Today we remember all veterans who have served our country in the armed forces. This federal holiday also coincides with the signing of the World War I Armistance on November 11th, 1918–that’s 95 years ago today.

If you’re looking for a way to formally honor these men and women, join the American Legion at the Virginia War Memorial at 10:00 AM. Governor Bob McDonnell will speak, and the ceremony will conclude with a performance of “Taps” (lyrics included below)…

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest
God is nigh.

Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar, drawing near
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky
As we go, this we know
God is nigh.
