Campaign launched to honor deceased Henrico teen
A new Bonfire Funds campaign will help create a new race that’ll memorialize the 16-year-old who died after completing a half marathon.
Henrico teen Cameron Gallagher collapsed and died shortly after crossing the finish line last week at the Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach.
The 16-year-old sophomore at Douglas Freeman High School was a competitive swimmer, despite suffering from kidney issues that sometimes hospitalized her. She chose to run the half marathon to prove she could overcome her health issues.
Last week, a Bonfire Funds T-shirt campaign launched to raise money for the Cameron K. Gallagher Benefit Memorial Fund. That fund will help start the Speak Up 5k race tentatively scheduled for May.
As of this publishing, 364 shirts have been sold to raise over $4,600 for the 5k. The funding campaign will end on April 4th.
