Boy wounded in shooting near Gilpin Court

“What it is, is what it is.”

Around 4:00 PM on Sunday afternoon a 12 year old boy was the victim of gunfire after an argument broke out between two men. RTD has the details.

The boy had just ridden his bicycle along a cut-through from a nearby basketball court to St. John Street, and was struck near where he reached the street, about 30 or 40 yards from the shooter, Lepley said.

The boy was struck in the thigh, and his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, said police Lt. Herman Loney III. He was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment, and his mother was with him there Sunday afternoon, Lepley said.

A neighbor said he heard about three quiet shots followed by three or four louder shots.

It is arguably more depressing to read this quote for a person that was on the scene.

Shortly after the shooting, the neighborhood bustled with dozens of playing children.

“What it is, is what it is,” said Richetta Battle, who was visiting the neighborhood Sunday.
