7th District’s Don Coleman elected School Board Chairman

Richmond School board approves the new superintendent’s contract and elects new officers.

Last night, the Richmond School Board approved new superintendent Dana T. Bedden’s contract and elected 7th District’s Don Coleman as its chairman.

From the Richmond Times Dispatch:

On a 9-0 vote, the board approved a four-year contract — the longest allowable in Virginia — for Superintendent Dana T. Bedden. He will earn at least $225,000 a year.

Bedden will start Monday. He’ll take over from interim Superintendent Jonathan Lewis, who has served since the last permanent superintendent, Yvonne W. Brandon, left at the end of June.

The board also selected a chairman and vice chairman for the year.
Donald L. Coleman, 7th District, moved from vice chairman to chairman on a 9-0 vote. He was the only candidate for the position.

Bedden will get to work on Monday.
