Virginia Diner Shoppe sets up shop in Carytown
The original Virginia Diner opened in 1929.
If you ever have out-of-state visitors, it’s your obligation to send them home with the following items: Virginia peanuts, country ham, and at least three items emblazoned with the RVA logo. It just became easier to take care of the peanuts and other Virginia items–if you so desire.
Virginia Diner Shoppe opened on June 5th at 3004B W. Cary Street. Richmond BizSense.com has more details.
“We’ve been trying to get into Carytown for three years,” said Stanley Mays, a co-owner of the Virginia Diner Shoppe. “We have to have foot traffic. Most of our gifts are under $20, and we have to do volume.”
Just like the three other Virginia Diner Shoppes, the store in Carytown sells the popular Virginia Diner peanuts, collegiate flags, cheekily branded hot sauces and an assortment of souvenirs. Mays said each store carries over 100 different blends of nuts.
The original Virginia Diner opened in 1929 in Wakefield. In 1979, the Galloway family bought the business and has owned it since, according to the diner’s website.

at least it’s not Jimmy Johns!
I left a comment on the Richmond Bizsense fluff piece advertising the new Jimmy John’s in Carytown. The “article” left out any mention that it was a franchise, marketing it as owned by a local lawyer. I pointed out that a national boycott was in effect because the owner of the national company liked to shoot rare and endangered animals:

Having no integrity at all, Bizsense deleted the comment, which they do whenever you do anything but gush all over their promotional material.

@Bob Loblaw. I don’t condone killing rare and endangered animals. Just curious why the change.org petition has been closed? I wanted to sign.
I will not shop there. All of their items are made in China. Go to O’Virginia where everything is American made.
Where is the Jimmy John’s in Carytown? I was just there today and didn’t see it?
Don’t shop there. The employees act like car salesmen and follow you around everywhere you go. I told them, “I’m just looking” and they wouldn’t leave me alone. I left because I felt uncomfortable.
