RVA Beer Explorer: Kid Pints, Coconut Pirates, Gulch of Blood, Red Army

A weekly column highlighting some of the wonderful beer offerings in the area.

Trapezium is in the Army now

We mentioned it last week and we’re mentioning it again. Trapezium Brewing from Petersburg teamed up with the Red Army, the supporter’s group for the Richmond Kickers, and will have a special Red Army Red IPA at Saturday’s game. City Stadium is the only place in town you’ll be able to taste this beer.  Go buy a ticket to the game, watch your local boys battle Premier League team Swansea City and drink a beer that none of your other beer snob friends have even heard about.

triple crossing releasing second in lockout series

triple crossing beer

There are always a bunch of new beer releases every weekend. This one is worth noting because the first in the Lockout Series was Mosiac Battle Creek DIPA and it was a booming success. I was disappointed. Not disappointed in the beer, disappointed that so many people found out so quickly how good it was and came and drank all my delicious, hoppy beer. The second in the series is Blood Gulch DIP and they’re describing it as a  “super loud hoppy beer passes the unanimous sensory panel with flying colors”. The second Lockout DIPA will release this Saturday, please leave some for me.

Coconut delight Release and pirate party

If you like beer with a taste of the tropics and are a fan of cold blooded sailors who robbed and killed innocent merchants that Licking Creek hole has an event for you on Saturday. The Coconut Delight Release & Pirate Party celebrates the bottle release for Coconut Delight – Silver Medal Winner, 2016 World Beer Cup, Field Beer. There will be live music and pirate themed activities for you and old. The evening will wrap up with a bit of Reggae from Mighty Joshua and the Zion 5.

Raise a Pint because of the kids

The actual name of this event is Raise a Pint for the Kids but in my house the raising of the pint was often because of the kid. Another story for another time. Let’s instead head to one of the following breweries where a portion (varies) of beer sales on Saturday go to support Building a Better RPS. Building a Better RPS is group of volunteers that are working on improving the schools through landscaping, painting, cleaning and other maintenance. This list has been growing steadily so don’t be angry if I miss one but here’s the ones I know that are participating:
