Business Insider has more details and states that the core reason for the shortage is that Chipotle has suspended one of its suppliers after discovering the supplier had violated Chipotle’s standards of treatment. According to the article the violations are centered around the housing of the pigs and was uncovered during a routine inspection.

There is no timeline for the return of carnitas.
