Flyin’ Pig named Asado landing at Empire, opened over the weekend

Burgers, barbecue, and tacos including barbecue tacos.

Update #1 — March 31, 2015; 9:35 AM

If you work or live near the old Empire you’ve now got another lunch/dinner option.

From Richmond BizSense.com:

Asado opened March 28 for lunch and dinner at 727 W. Broad St. The taco and wing spot is owned by Stephen Rogge, Ian Anderson and Kevin McGrath. The trio also owns the Flyin’ Pig in Chesterfield.

Rogge said it cost about $80,000 to renovate the former Empire Dining and Lounge space. Empire was open at North Laurel and West Broad streets for nearly a decade.

The Empire (727 W. Broad St.) closed earlier this year. As most of you know the location is restaurant space so it’s not surprising that a set of enterprising restauranteurs would seize the opportunity to open another eatery.

The restauranteurs that are doing the seizing are the owners of The Flyin’ Pig which is located in Chesterfield County. They bill themselves as a “Backyard Grill and Bar” and their menu reflects that with lots of barbecue options and intriguingly tacos, lots of tacos, including beef brisket and Buffalo chicken tacos. The new place will be called Asado1 and they plan to stick with what they know. Full Flyin’ Pig menu here.

Richmond BizSense.com has the full story.

In addition to a name and menu change, the restaurant property will undergo some cosmetic changes. The owners will move the building’s main entryway from Laurel Street to West Broad. Bamboo and wood finishes are in the works for the space. The upstairs part of the property will remain closed until demand for Asado warrants an expansion, Anderson said.
