Cellar to Table sues The Yellow Umbrella

And the businesses share a space. AWKWARD.

It appears the relationship between the two businesses, which share a space at 5603 Patterson Avenue, has grown bitter.

From Richmond BizSense:

Katherine Haydon and her company Cellar to Table this month sued David Whitby, owner of meat and seafood market Yellow Umbrella Provisions on Patterson Avenue. The suit alleges Whitby has created an inhospitable work environment and has been trying to push her out of the space they’ve shared for more than a year.

Haydon and Cellar to Table claim the business has been harmed by Whitby’s allegedly “abusive, demoralizing, and intimidating” behavior and that his acts were a breach of their lease. Haydon also is claiming that Whitby may have misrepresented himself as the owner of the Yellow Umbrella space.

Haydon is seeking damages of $850,000.

Really guys, c’mon now. You never saw this one coming?

After working for the Whitby family for many, many years, As well as having the pleasure of ever so briefly working with Ms. Haydon…I can wholeheartedly say, someone should probably question her morals and/or motives on the actions she is currently taking. Yellow Umbrella is a Patterson Ave. trademark and will continue to remain that way as long as I can imagine. The Whitby’s have built this tradition from the ground up, in a spectacular way. Maybe it’s just time for the fold on the cellar and table and just go count your losses.

Sounds like someone needs a lesson in how the free market works and that
competition weeds out the weak. Sorry; we’re not sorry. Means you need a better business.
