Your guide to the 2011 Richmond Folk Festival

The Richmond Folk Festival is just around the corner, and we have all the bits and pieces that you need to make attending one of the largest (and FREE) music festivals in the country the most enjoyable and rewarding.

The Richmond Folk Festival is now upon us! It’s not only one of Virginia’s most popular festivals, but also one of the country’s largest music festivals. Oh, yeah. And it’s FREE!

The Folk Festival is poised to bring around 200,000 attendees to Richmond’s downtown riverfront over three days to listen over 30 musical acts and see the work of numerous artisans.

Folk doesn’t just mean the likes of pre-electric Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger, it encompasses the music and culture of “the people.” In fact, we get the root of the word from the German fulka, which means “a people” or “crowd.” So, although Peter, Paul, and Mary are just fine, when we say “folk” we mean the musical and cultural traditions from all over the globe will be coming to Richmond this weekend, October 14-16.

Our 2011 Richmond Folk Festival guide is the go-to source for EVERYTHING you could possibly need or want to know. In it you will find:

We’ll continue to update the Folk Festival Guide as we get closer to the event, so check back regularly.
