The rainy pattern has broken, and it couldn’t have been timed much better. Officially, we’ve picked up 1.83” of rain at the airport since Tuesday, and our rainfall deficit for the year is now back under 6”. That’s still a lot of rain to be short. I haven’t included this week’s US Drought Monitor because it cuts of data at 7am Tuesday, so it won’t reflect this week’s rainfall. We’re still in a drought, but every little bit of rain helps.
Friday has been absolutely gorgeous. Temperatures are climbing into the low 90s with partly cloudy skies. It’s still humid, but nothing more than is typical for the summer. High pressure is moving into the region and will dominate for the remainder of today and well into the weekend. Mostly clear skies overnight means lows will drop into the upper 60s.
It will be more of the same on Saturday, where we’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies again with highs in the low 90s. Perfect weather for a weekend day, if I do say so myself. Overnight lows again should fall into the upper 60s.
A low developing over the Appalahcians and trailing a cold front will bring back the chance of some unsettled weather for Sunday. Highs again should remain near 90, but the clouds will begin to build some. It depends on the timing of the system, but right now it looks like the best opportunity for any rain will come in the evening hours west of I-95. Otherwise, expect the clouds to help keep temperatures warmer, with overnight lows only falling into the low 70s.
For the beginning of next week, the cold front looks to keep things a bit unsettled. I’ll have a full update on Monday.
