Weather! Unsettled pattern this week
We’ve got an unsettled pattern this week, as we’ll start out clear but end the week with multiple rain chances. A white Christmas is out of the cards at this point, but a wet one isn’t.
Temperatures are starting to climb quickly under clear skies today, but this clear and calm pattern will be short-lived. We’ll have some nice temperatures to enjoy in the meantime; try to enjoy them while you can.
Monday: High pressure anchored off the Carolina coast is responsible for southwest winds funneling in some (relatively speaking) warm air, and we’ll get pretty warm today as a result. Temperatures will climb into the mid 50s. Expect a couple stray clouds to be the only tarnish to what is otherwise a perfect sky. Clouds will increase beginning this evening, however, as a weak cold front moves into central Virginia. Temperatures will stay warm tonight as we remain on the warm side of the front, dropping into the upper 30s.
Tuesday: We’ll get warm again on Tuesday thanks to the cloudcover; highs will head back into the mid 50s. Clouds will stick around through the day and increase overnight, as temperatures only fall into the mid 40s.
Wednesday: Our first of several precipitation chances this weeks shows up beginning Wednesday afternoon, but not before temperatures climb to near 60. Rain will be light and intermittent, beginning around the lunch hour. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40s overnight.
Temperatures will stay warm on Thursday, before another round of showers in the hours before sunrise Friday morning. Temperatures will steadily cool through the end of the week, going from highs near 60 on Thursday all the way down to a high around 50 on Sunday. We’ll have an additional round of precip come as an area of low pressure develops along the coast through the day Saturday, making for a rainy Christmas Eve. Christmas Day looks partly cloudy but otherwise dry with a high near 50.
Some travel concerns may pop up for the day after Christmas; if you’ve got plans to be on the road that day, keep an eye on the forecast. I’ll have more information about this as the model runs flesh out through this week.
