Weather! Unsettled pattern ahead

Today marks the beginning of a relatively unsettled pattern for this week. A number of systems will be crossing the region through this week, and we’ll get a few legitimate rain chances to go along with the hot and humid weather.

For Monday, temperatures will climb into the lower 90s as high pressure settles into the area. A warm front will pass through the region this evening, giving us a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours. A large area of precipitation is already crossing the Appalachians across western Virginia, and clouds will increase this afternoon as the front approaches eastern Virginia. Clear skies will move in behind the front, and nighttime temperatures are expected to upper 70s.

Tuesday is looking like a carbon copy of Monday in some respects. Highs will again approach the lower 90s, and a weak cold front approaching from the west will be the catalyst for any rain and thunderstorm activity in the afternoon hours. Lows Tuesday night again fall into the low 70s.

Several of the longer-term models keep this same pattern going through this weekend. I’m hopeful that we can see some rain out of whatever falls this week and make a dent in the drought.
