Weather! Small chance of rain for the next two days

Yesterday was a bust. The ingredients for strong thunderstorm formation were there all day Sunday, especially in the later afternoon when the sun finally came out and raised temperatures around ten degrees, but there was never a trigger, and so storm initiation never happened.

Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise, as 10 people lost their lives to tornadoes in Mississippi over the weekend. The largest of these was a tornado that was 1.75 miles wide at its longest point and left a damage track 97 miles long across Louisiana and Mississippi. The National Weather Service office in Jackson, Mississippi has given the tornado a preliminary EF-4 rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The Weather Channel’s Dr. Greg Forbes wrote a blog this morning about the mechanics of that particular tornado when it was at its peak around Yazoo City, MS.

As for Richmond, Monday‘s looking like a pretty good day. We’ve got clear skies at the moment, though the low pressure system responsible for all of this weekend’s severe weather is currently spinning over central Ohio, and will be bringing some increasing cloud cover with it. There’s a small chance for some light precipitation, probably in the form of an isolated shower or thunderstorm. I don’t expect that we’ll see much, if anything, but the possibility is there. In the meantime, there’s sunshine and warm air outside. We’re going to get one more day of 70s before some mid-week cooling as the system passes north of us. Tonight, the clouds will continue to increase, helping to moderate temperatures and keeping overnight lows in the lower 50s, and any rain we see should be minimal, but we should be mostly dry.

The clouds will stick around for Tuesday, and bring some cooler temperatures with them, along with another chance of rain and maybe an isolated thunderstorm, but I’m not as keen on that idea. High temperatures Tuesday will linger in the mid to upper 60s, and dip into the low 40s overnight Tuesday night as clouds finally exit the area overnight.

The rest of the week is looking clear and a little on the cool side of average for this time of year. I’ll have another forecast on Wednesday.
