Weather! Slick start to Monday morning

No, you’re not being deceived, snow is back in the forecast. The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for the immediate metro area, including Chesterfield and Henrico Counties and the City of Richmond, from 4:00 AM through noon Monday.

The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for the immediate metro area, including Chesterfield and Henrico Counties and the City of Richmond, from 4:00 AM through noon Monday.

A fast-moving system – called an Alberta Clipper – is making its way towards Virginia and the Carolinas today. Snow will not be widespread – the prime target is going to be a narrow area across the southern half of Virginia and along the North Carolina border.

This is the snow forecast from the National Weather Service office in Wakefield. Again, it’s not going to be a lot of snow, but it will impact your Monday commute. Totals of roughly an inch or so will be fairly common, especially as you get to the south and west of the city. Because we’ve been warm, I’d expect to see most of the accumulation on grassy and elevated surfaces. Starting off overnight will help snow accumulate in places it might not during the day, especially on roads, which will be slick and slushy at the least and snow-covered in less-traveled areas.

The snow wraps up and temperatures climb into the upper 30s during the afternoon, before cooling off into the mid 20s Monday night. Winds pick up in the afternoon hours Monday, gusting to 20 mph at times.

Temperatures climb into the upper 40s on Tuesday as skies clear and the snow melts. Lows fall back to near 30.

On Wednesday, the heat returns, as temperatures hit the low 60s, falling to 40 overnight. It’s like this week has something for almost everyone.

Temperatures make a run at 70 on Thursday and Friday, proving yet again that spring is conspiring against everyone, snow-lovers and warm-air wishers alike.
