I had intended to write this a few hours ago, but then the Japan earthquake happened, and I’ve been a bit distracted since. Apologies if I’ve overlooked anything in the forecast that I should be including.

First – don’t forget to SPRING FORWARD this weekend. Daylight Saving Time takes effect at 2:00am Sunday morning.

Richmond picked up 1.63” of rain yesterday, which now leaves our rainfall deficit at less than an inch for the year to date. We need one or two good more soaking storms to wipe this deficit out for a while. That being said, I’m good with a break in the rain for a bit, and I know our rivers are, too.

The James River at Richmond-Westham is on its way up again. A flood warning has been posted for Henrico, Chesterfield, and the City of Richmond until further notice. The James is expected to crest overnight tonight and early Saturday morning at a height near 15 feet. The river will rise rapidly over the next 24 hours; precautions need to be taken to protect threatened property now.

Thankfully it looks like we’re going to get a respite at least through the weekend.

High pressure will move in as the low and cold front clear out through the day for Friday. There will be some lingering cloudcover, which will diminish as the day goes on. Highs today will top out in the upper 50s, with lows tonight in the low 30s.

The gorgeous weather continues through the weekend, with highs in the mid to upper 60s on both Saturday and Sunday under partly to mostly sunny skies. Lows both nights will fall into the mid 30s, as our weekend stays mostly quiet.

Our next rain threat is looking like either late Sunday or early Monday, as another, weaker, cold front passes through the region. Enjoy your weekend!
