Weather! More summer-like weather in store
It’s only April, and we’re getting a head start on the warm and humid weather.
Warm and humid will be the story for the remainder of Wednesday, as our temperatures again climb towards the low 80s under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures overnight tonight will fall back into the mid 50s.
The Storm Prediction Center has also placed eastern and central Virginia under a slight risk for severe weather today.
The feature responsible for this classification is a weakening disturbance and cold front that brought severe weather to most of the country between the Mississippi River and the Appalachians last night, prompting tornado warnings from central Mississippi all the way to southern and central Ohio. The system fizzled out as it approached the mountains late last night, but seems to be gathering steam this afternoon. Compared to last weekend, the threat for severe weather is low; the primary threat with any storms that develop this afternoon will be strong straight-line wind gusts and small hail.
The severe weather threat ends tonight, and we get another repeat of Wednesday’s weather on Thursday, as temperatures again climb into the low 80s under partly cloudy skies. Overnight lows tomorrow night drop into the mid 40s as high pressure builds in from the north. Despite the frontal passage, there’s no threat of severe weather.
Squirrelcast (6:35pm, vs. Altoona): Partly cloudy skies and cooling temperatures will make for a great night at the ballpark. Plan on game-time temperatures in the upper 70s, dropping into the upper 60s by the ninth inning.
