Weather! More gorgeous conditions through the weekend
The pleasant weather we’ve seen through this week continues into early next week. Plus, I’ve got news on the Outer Banks’ rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Irene.
If you haven’t heard, I’m going to be back in Richmond this week. The Social Media Club of Richmond is hosting a panel on Social Media and Emergency Management this coming Thursday, October 13th, at the Firehouse Theater. If you’re interested, I hope you’ll be able to attend!
Hurricane Irene cut multiple new inlets along the islands of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, completely washing out NC 12 in some places, and restricting traffic on southern portions of Hatteras Island. Since Irene’s landfall, North Carolina authorities have completely restricted visitor traffic to areas south of the washout. But now, there’s good news. NCDOT crews have almost completed erecting a temporary bridge over the new inlet, and plan to reopen NC 12 to visitors in Rodanthe and areas south no later that Tuesday, October 11. For additional information about the recovery efforts, NCDOT has created a recovery project site.

Temperatures will steadily climb through the weekend. After a high in the mid 70s today and lows in the upper 40s tonight and Saturday, the mercury takes a step up, heading to near 80 on both Sunday and Monday, as lows climb into the mid and upper 50s, respectively. Clouds start to build in on Monday as the ridge of high pressure responsible for this fantastic weather begins to weaken and move off to the northeast. The models are hinting at an area of low pressure forming near Florida and then moving north into the mid-Atlantic next week. There’s still a lot of divergence regarding exactly where and when the system will form, but it could be a rainmaker for us beginning the middle of next week.
Like all good things, this pleasant weather must come to an end, but thankfully we’ve got several more days left to enjoy it.
