Weather! Heat, humidity, chance of storms this weekend

The weather was absolutely fantastic yesterday, to boot. I received several comments from people that last year was even warmer than this year’s event. However, the opposite was actually true – Thursday’s high of 94 beat the high temp on June 18, 2009 by six degrees.

I’d like to thank Pat Vitsky at the Retail Merchants Association for the invitation to their Backyard Cookout event on Thursday. I got to meet a bunch of great people, enjoy some good food and entertainment, and help support the Central Virginia Food Bank. (And I got to leave work early – always a bonus!)

Friday promises to be a repeat of Thursday, though slightly cooler. Temperatures will only top out in the upper 80s, and we’ll spend the day under mostly clear skies and light winds. Low temperatures Friday night fall into the upper 60s.

A frontal system that has been stationary over the southern Appalachians for the last couple days will track across the area Saturday, but not before temperatures soar into the low 90s during the afternoon. Rain and any thunderstorms will likely occur as this system passes through the area, but the exact threats are still unknown. We may see storms, we may see only rain showers, or we may see nothing at all. Lows Saturday night fall to near 70.

Sunday is a near carbon copy of Saturday, with temps again topping out in the low 90s. The rain/thunderstorm threat will appear again due to afternoon heating; otherwise, skies stay partly cloudy. Sunday night lows again fall to near 70.

Enjoy your weekend!
