Weather! Great weather ahead, but for how long?
We’ve got some great weather in store for Wednesday and Thursday, but unfortunately our forecast takes a turn for the worst, just in time for some big Richmond events.
My email inbox has been busy lately as the other chase leaders and I talk about our targets for next week’s trip. Unfortunately, the setup over the Great Plains next week is much less than ideal; we’ve spent the better part of a week trying to intuit some sort of a general chase plan, and so far our results resemble an effort to get actual winning lottery numbers from Miss Cleo.
Wednesday: Lingering clouds are finally clearing out this afternoon, and temperatures today are on their way into the mid 70s. High pressure that has kept conditions absolutely spectacular over the last few days is sticking around, but a frontal boundary holding just off to the west is producing a few more clouds. We’ll stay on the more appealing side of the front for now, enjoying a few more breaks in the clouds than those to the west. Thankfully, any threats of rain will also stay to the west. Temperatures tonight will drop into the upper 50s to near 60.
That area of high pressure continues to linger on Thursday, stalling the boundary over the western part of the state and buying yet another day of partly cloudy conditions. We’ll see conditions pretty similar to today, with highs again in the mid 70s under partly cloudy skies. Overnight lows again will fall into the upper 50s to near 60.
Squirrelcast (vs. Harrisburg, 7:05pm): We’re looking at another great night for some baseball. Temperatures at game time will be in the low 70s, dropping into the mid 60s by the ninth inning.
Unfortunately, if you’ve got plans for baseball, Dominion Riverrock, or other outdoor events this weekend, conditions aren’t looking so good. The high pressure responsible for our great weather will finally erode, allowing a front to pass through on Friday, bringing in additional cloudcover and the possibility of some scattered showers or storms, especially west of I-95. By Saturday, an upper level low and easterly flow off the Atlantic means we’ll have overcast conditions this weekend, with the possibility of both showers and thunderstorms through most of the weekend. There’s still a lot of uncertainty with exactly what to expect this weekend, but I’ll have an update here on Friday to flesh everything out for this weekend.
