Weather! Cooler temperatures return this weekend

According to The Weather Channel’s Dr. Greg Forbes, 53 tornadoes have been confirmed from the October 25-28 outbreak, and another 16 are preliminary. If 10 of those are confirmed, it will set the record for largest tornado outbreak in October. The previous record was 62, during the Oct 17-19, 2007 outbreak. I’m working on a […]

I’m working on a recap of the effects across Virginia, and hope to have it up soon.

Been outside yet today? It’s about 20 degrees colder at noon today compared to yesterday. High pressure behind the cold front is the dominant feature, and ready to bring the region yet another gorgeous October weekend.

For the rest of Friday, don’t expect temperatures to get much warmer than they are right now. Highs this afternoon will top out in the low 60s. However, plan on some pretty frigid weather this evening, as the lack of clouds will encourage radiational cooling, which will allow lows tonight to get down into the mid 30s, especially in the outlying areas. Counties to the west of the I-95 corridor are under a freeze warning tonight. Make sure you take steps to protect any outdoor plants and animals.

We’ll warm up a little on Saturday, but expect a lot of the same — clear skies and mild temperatures. Highs will climb into the mid 60s, and even though it will be slightly warmer overnight, temperatures will still fall into the low 40s. Bundle up if you’ve got football plans – especially for night games.

CavCast (vs. Miami, 12:00pm): The Cavaliers are the only team playing at home this weekend, and the weather in Charlottesville is going to be just as great there. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s at kickoff, climbing to near 65 by the end of the game. Skies will be mostly clear, with a steady breeze through the afternoon.

A weak cold front will pass through the area on Sunday, bringing some high clouds and not a whole lot else. Temperatures will actually increase relative to the rest of the weekend; Sunday’s high temps will be near 70, while lows will still fall into the low 40s.

The early part of next week should see a continuation of this weekend, before the weather becomes slightly more unsettled again. I’ll have another update on Monday.
