Weather! Busy tropics, calm at home

In Richmond, it’s more of the same this week; high pressure, few clouds and warm daytime temperatures. Both Wednesday and Thursday will see highs around 90, with lows in the lower 60s.

The tropics are still busy.

Tropical Storm Karl developed Tuesday evening in the Caribbean Sea, and is forecast to make landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula during the day Wednesday, and the cross into the Bay of Campeche and strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall in central Mexico near the weekend.

Major Hurricane Igor is still at Category Four strength on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Igor has likely peaked, and will weaken some as it tracks to the west and then to the north. Bermuda does not appear likely to escape Igor’s affects at this point, though it’s too early to tell exactly how much impact the island will see. Hurricane force winds extend only 45 miles out from the center of the storm, which is quite compact. Even subtle track shifts may make a large difference on how much damage Bermuda sees.

Hurricane Julia has strengthened rapidly and is now at Category Three status; however, Julia is in the central Atlantic and currently poses no threat to land.

In Richmond, it’s more of the same this week; high pressure, few clouds and warm daytime temperatures. Both Wednesday and Thursday will see highs around 90, with lows in the lower 60s. Aside from some scattered clouds, plan on mostly clear conditions both days. For now, things are looking warm and dry into the weekend. Enjoy the gorgeous weather!
