Volunteer to cheer for Special Olympics

Looking for a family-friendly volunteering opportunity? June 10th and 11th, Special Olympics Virginia needs you and your crew to cheer for some incredible athletes.

Special Olympics Virginia’s Summer Games kick off in just a couple weeks, and the folks in charge are looking for volunteers to come out and make some serious noise for their athletes.

Do you know who’s really good at making noise? Kids. Let’s harness those ruckus-raising skills for good.

Volunteers of all ages are invited to sign up to cheer at three different events at the 2016 Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games:

  • Summer Games Opening Ceremony: Friday, June 10th at 7:30 PM at University of Richmond’s Robins Stadium
  • Summer Games Track and Field Events: Saturday, June 11th from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at University of Richmond’s Robins Stadium
  • Summer Games Softball Tournament: Saturday, June 11th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Glen Allen Softball Complex

The Opening Ceremony will feature performances by American Idol finalist (and hometown boy) Rayvon Owen and Richmond Ballet’s Minds in Motion Team XXL.

Those who cheer for Saturday’s track and field events at are also welcome to visit Olympic Town where they can play BINGO; pop into the gaming trailer; catch a show by Mad Science; get their faces painted; and nosh on free smoothies, popcorn, and ice cream.
