Virginia Craft Beer month, a crazy long happy hour, and The Blue Goat reboots

August is Virginia Craft Beer month, so expect a ton of beer-related events. Also this week, The Blue Goat announced they would reboot their concept.

Do you know what’s special about August? Other than the sweltering heat and shirt soaking humidity, it’s Virginia Craft Beer Month! Those two things go together pretty well when you think about it, so knock the top off the nearest Virginia brew, sit back, and…disgustingly sweat through all of your shirts.

If you’re looking for a full run down of all the many (many!) events going on around the Commonwealth in celebration of our bourgeoning beer scene, head on over to RVA Beermeister’s site.

Part of the aforementioned Virginia Craft Beer Month is Friday’s Virginia Beer Live, “the first indoor Virgina craft beer festival to feature over 20 Virginia-based breweries at the Richmond Coliseum.” I…am not sure which of the things in that previous sentence are qualifiers and which aren’t. Regardless, VBL will give you a chance to sample brews from 21 different Virginia breweries–some of which do not distribute to RVA!

Doors open Friday at 5:30 PM, and tickets range from $17-37 dollars.

Richmond.com reports that Fat Dragon is extending their happy hour in honor of the Redskins Training Camp. Honestly, to call a 450-minute window a happy hour seems a little disingenuous, but I’m not gonna complain! The F. Drag definitely has some worthwhile specials including $2 off of draft beers, which, considering it is Virginia Craft Beer Month and all, is something I plan to partake of frequently. Lunch beers!

I’m going to make a coming-of-age movie about how a ton of Richmond’s restaurants spent the summer of ’13 taking time off from life, hanging out, rediscovering themselves, and learning a few lessons about love along the way. Ol’ RDC is reporting that The Blue Goat is the newest dining spot to shut their doors and reboot / rebrand / relaunch. When what was once the spot in Richmond for adventurous eating (pig ears!) reopens its doors, it’ll have a new focus of burgers and sandwiches. So it goes.

The Blue Goat reopens on August 8th.
