UR student found dead after New Jersey shooting

The 19-year-old appears to be the victim of a targeted shooting.

The body of University of Richmond freshman Brendan Tevlin, 19, was found Thursday morning in West Orange, NJ, an apparent victim of a shooting.

Tevilin — from Livingston, NJ — was found in an SUV outside a 40-unit apartment complex around 2:30 AM. The passenger’s side windows of the SUV were shattered. Tevilin was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

More from ABC 7 in New York:

Before the body was found, police responded to a report of shots fired on nearby Walker Road just after midnight.

Residents reported hearing five or six shots, and police discovered broken glass and evidence of a shooting.

There was no one at the scene, however, and a canvassing of area hospitals failed to turn up a gunshot victim.

No arrests were immediately made, and the motive for the murder is under investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates he was targeted.
