TIP! KonMari those books over to the Richmond Public Library

Keep the books that truly spark joy, give the rest of them to the institution that is the most joyous of all.

If you attended RVANews Live #004 last night, you know about the magic and wonder that is the KonMari Method. And if you don’t, then here’s what you need to know:

You have permission to get rid of anything you want, as long as you are honest with yourself about what it means to you.

If you’re a reader, you likely have an almost iconic reverence for physical books. As such, it’s hard to cull them from your shelves, even if you have not read it, read it years ago and never intend to read it again, or got it as a gift and really don’t plan on ever cracking its covers.

Find the strength and keep only what you really and truly love and plan to definitely read again. Or even those you plan to read again multiple times, because friends, you can get your stuff from the library anytime you want! Keep your mom’s high school copy of Jane Eyre because it delights you to remember that she also loved Brontë as an impressionable teen (thanks, Mom!), but donate the other ones to a good cause.

The library! Think of it. All the books collecting dust on your shelves could be turned over to the Richmond Public Library. Just bring ’em by the main branch’s rear loading dock on October 3rd. They’ll be sold at the Friends Book Sale, and not only will they go on to the homes of people who want to read them, the profits made therein will keep the library running so that you and others may find new things to read!!

Gimme all dem Brontës!
