TIP! Celebrate with caution

Do not go to jail!

Before you go out into the celebratory yonder with a feather in your cap that you have fondly named “Macaroni,” we want to remind you of two things very quickly.

Avoid starting fires and/or going to jail

Many, many fireworks are illegal in the state of Virginia. The ones that are not are as follows:

  • Sparklers
  • Fountains
  • Pharoah’s serpents
  • Whirligigs

The ones that ARE illegal include:

  • Firecrackers
  • Skyrockets
  • Torpedoes
  • Anything that shoots laterally or into the air

Honestly, the ones that are legal have the best names. They remind me of a simpler time, when all kids wanted was a whirligig and some lemon rock candy.

But should you dabble in the legal, awesomely named fireworks, please carefully read this site about how to avoid starting a fire. Do it for you, your loved ones, and your neighborhood.

Avoid murdering someone

Bullets that go up have to come down.

They don’t go into space. They go up, reverse course, come down, and potentially kill a human being. We all remember this awful occurrence a couple of years ago in Brandermill–let’s make sure it never happens again.

Happy Fourth, America!
