Teachers deserve our appreciation all year long, but this is the week to be intentional about it.
According to the National PTA, May 5th through 9th (that’s this week!) is Teacher Appreciation Week–it’s the 30th anniversary of this occasion, in fact.
Of course, teachers deserve our appreciation all year long, but this is the week to be intentional about it. Make it a point to thank a teacher–your child’s, your own, one you know and love–for all he or she does in caring for and educating our kids.
“Oh but how?” you ask.
You could spend gobs of time scouring the Teacher Appreciation Week tag on Pinterest, but as a former classroom teacher, I suggest you keep two words in mind when figuring out the best way to show the teachers in your life some love: simple and sincere. While the cute crafts are appreciated, what teachers really need is our support. A heartfelt note, email, phone call, or even an in-person conversation thanking them for what they do goes a long way–and will probably stick with them much longer than that tote bag or flower pot ever would.
(Although donuts and coffee gift cards usually go over pretty well, too.)
