Take Chesterfield County’s Great Park Challenge

Honor National Trails Day by taking Chesterfield County’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Great Park Challenge—and maybe win something while you’re at it!

June 6th is National Trails Day,1 and to celebrate this annual event, the folks at Chesterfield County Parks & Rec invite you to take part in their Great Parks Challenge.

Beginning on the 6th and running through Monday, June 15th, the Great Parks Challenge (GPC) is a free event great for individuals and families–or groups of individuals and families, whatevs!

GPC participants are tasked with visiting five different Chesterfield County parks in order to answer five questions about each park. Parks included in the challenge are…

  • Radcliffe Conservation Area (21501 Chesdin Road in South Chesterfield)
  • Dodd Park at Point of Rocks (201 Enon Church Road in Chester)
  • Dutch Gap Conservation Area (341 Henricus Park Road in Chester)
  • Rockwood Park (3401 Courthouse Road in North Chesterfield)
  • Robious Landing Park (3800 James River Road in Midlothian)

Registration for GPC is happening right over here. Beginning June 6th, maps and sets of questions for each of the participating parks will be available on the Chesterfield County Parks and Rec website. Answers to the questions must be emailed to battistam@chesterfield.gov (with “GPC Answers” in the subject line) by 3:00 PM on Monday, June 15th. Those who answer all of the questions correctly are entered to win a $50 credit to a Chesterfield County Parks & Rec outdoor recreation program. Two winners will be selected from the pool of devoted and knowledgable park-appreciators.

  1. Yep, it’s a thing! According to the American Hiking Society–and it seems like they’d probably know about such things.
