Goodbye Sprout

Over the long weekend several live music hot spots closed their doors for business. When I got the news that Sprout was closing and throwing a huge goodbye show I knew I had to be there. I recently purchased a portable recording unit and figured I’d document the moment as best I could and pair the recording with my photos. The show spanned over seven hours and at least 12 bands performed. Everyone played as if it were not just the last show at Sprout but their personal last show ever. As the night went on more and more people crowed into the tiny former restaurant, and at some point around midnight the show almost got shut down. After most of the people were cleared out, staff and close friends cleaned up the giant mess of cans and bottles before the show continued with experimental and noise artists.

Over all this was one of the wildest and fun shows I have ever seen in Richmond. What a way to say goodbye!

Below you’ll find pictures as well as a small sample of the sounds heard that night. You can listen to the whole hour-long sound collage over on SoundCloud.
