RVA Deals

Who doesn’t love (basically) free cheese and free crayons? Crazy people, that’s who. Find out to get them, along with some other seriously amazing deals around town this week.

Here’s the skinny on how to get (basically) free cheese and crayons at Kroger this week. It’s more technical than I usually attempt in this column, but they’re such great deals that I just have to try! If you have questions, ask away and I’ll do my best to answer.

Kraft shredded cheese, cheese singles, and cream cheese are on sale for $1.49 this week at Kroger. They are also part of the 10-item Mega Event, with which you save $5 off your order when you buy any 10 participating products. That works out to a savings of $.50 off per item, making the cheese $.99 when you buy it as part of the promo. PLUS right now Kraft is offering a checkout coupon (which prints at the register after you complete your transaction) for $5 off your next purchase at Kroger when you buy 5 Kraft products. *On top of all that, Kraft is donating 5 meals to Feeding America when you buy 5 of its cheese or dairy products! All you need to do is:

  1. Go to Kroger.
  2. Choose 5 Kraft cheeses that have the “Mega Event” shelf tag.
  3. Choose 5 other items that are part of the Mega Event promotion (see top picks below for some ideas)
  4. Checkout. After you pay, you should receive a coupon for $5 off your next Kroger purchase! (So 5 packages of cheese for $.99 each – $5 coupon for next time = FREE!)

The Crayola crayon deal is a little simpler, and possibly even more genius. Crayola basic 24-packs of crayons are on sale for just $.25 at Kroger this week, regularly $2.25 each. I won’t bore you with the logistical details of why this works, but here’s what you do:

  1. Go to Kroger.
  2. Buy 9 boxes of Crayola crayons, total cost $2.25.
  3. Receive a coupon at checkout for $4 off your next Kroger purchase! So you spend $2.25 plus tax, and receive $4 back.

(Note: If you don’t want, or can’t find, 9 boxes, you can purchase 5 boxes for $1.25 and receive a $2 checkout coupon.)

Reminder about the Kroger Mega Event: Save $5 on your purchase when you buy ANY 10 participating items. Participating items have special shelf tags in the store. You can buy any combination of 10 that you choose to save the $5. Mega Event items listed below are shown with final price after $.50 per item discount.

A couple of days ago, Food Lion had really nice looking t-bones and Porterhouse steaks for $4.99 per pound. Had one last night. Was divine! That sale may still be going on, FYI.
