Our bargain hunter breaks down yet another twist in Ukrop’s double coupon policy and gives you the 411 on her picks for the best deals around town.

Yet another twist on double coupons at Ukrop’s this week: The circular contains four “coupon doubler” coupons. Redeem them in combination with a $1 manufacturer’s coupon to have the coupon doubled to $2 value. Fine print restrictions abound: only 4 doubled coupons per household, only manufacturer’s coupons from newspapers and magazines accepted (sounds like it excludes internet printables), and apparently, only one doubled coupon per $15 spent.

Example: Halls cough drops are on sale for $.99 this week. Buy two packages and use “$1 off 2” coupon from last Sunday’s SmartSource insert, as well as one of the special Ukrop’s coupons. The manufacturer’s coupon should double, giving you both bags for free!

Other double coupon savings opportunities I see in this week’s circular include Turkey Hill ice cream on sale for $2.50 (use $1 coupon from from 11/8 Redplum to get it for $.50) and Old Spice deodorant 50% off (use “$1 off 2” coupon from Sunday’s Proctor & Gamble insert). If you find any additional great deals, please share!

While I’m terribly excited at the prospect of double $1 coupons, this particular method of requiring one coupon to double another coupon seems unnecessarily complicated. (If you’re trying to limit the number of doubled coupons, why not just impose a limit?) It’s also not an approach I’ve ever heard of before. I’m holding out hope that it’s some temporary hybrid technique that Giant/Martin’s has created to transition Richmond into its double coupon policies.
